All the hard work is done when you fill the jar. When they’re ready to cook, it’s just water, a few fresh veggies, and some leftover chicken.

What Goes in the Jar

Chicken Noodle Soup Mix 6
  • 3 tbsp dried chopped onions
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp dried thyme
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 to 2½ cups egg noodles
  • 1 chicken bouillon cube
  • 1 bay leaf

How to Assemble the Jar

Layer everything in this exact order so it looks neat through the glass. Start with the dried onions at the bottom, then garlic powder, then the thyme, oregano, and black pepper together. Add the egg noodles next, then tuck in the bay leaf, and place the bouillon cube right on top.

Close the lid tightly. If you’re gifting it, tie a piece of string around the jar and attach a small tag with the cooking instructions below.

Only use dry ingredients in the jar. Fresh ingredients will spoil and shorten the shelf life. Stored in a cool, dry place, this jar stays good for several weeks to months.

Or just write the instructions on a small card yourself.

That’s it! The tag on this jar keeps it simple with just the name and a heart. The cooking instructions can go on the back of the tag or on a separate card tucked under the ribbon.

How to Cook the Soup

Empty the jar into a large pot. Add 5 cups of water, 1 cup of chopped carrots, and 1 cup of chopped celery.

Bring everything to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 8 to 10 minutes until the noodles start to soften. Add 1 to 2 cups of cooked shredded chicken and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes.

Fish out the bay leaf, ladle into bowls, and serve hot.

Easy Swaps to Try

No egg noodles? Small pasta or star-shaped pasta works just as well.

Swap the chicken bouillon for a vegetable bouillon cube and skip the chicken to make it fully vegetarian. Both versions taste great.
